RPI's NEB&W Model Railroad

Reynolds cut 49 was the final complete section of the former NEB&W. A raffle for this last section was held at the 2026 Railroad Hobby Show in West Springfield MA. Don, our raffle winner, has picked up this section and taken it to its new home in PA.
RPI’s New England Berkshire and Western model railroad was one of the most scenic railroads in the northeast. In 2019 RPI needed to perform construction where the layout was located. The layout was disassembled and moved into storage. The idea was to move the layout into a new permanent home on the ground floor of a leased building. Unfortunately RPI decided to end the lease for that building and with no other place to store the layout, RPI transferred the layout to the NMRA-NER for the purpose of saving what can be saved.
When the layout needed to be moved it was professionally cut up into 75 pieces with the structures and rolling stock packed into boxes.
The Northeastern Region of the National Model Railroad Association working together with the Rensselaer Model Railroad Society has found new homes for most of the sections of its iconic NEB&W model railroad.
As of 1/2/2026 all but two sections of the former layout have found new homes. The sections still available are cuts 73 and 74.
Notice: If you are am Alumni or former club members please contact us as we will be distributiong NEB&W cars that ran on the layout on a first come basis.
We are pleased to anounce that remaining items from the NEB&W will be sold off at Amherst Railway Society’s Railroad Hobby Show in West Springfield, MA on January 25 and 26, 2026. Please join us in The Better Living Center Section 29A Tables H-L, right next to the NMRA booth.
If you would like to explore a virtual tour of the NEB&W before it was cut up, Hudson Virtual Tours produced an excellent tour.
Once you go to their site, you then have to click on the play button on the virtual tour and then double click on an area of the layout. From there you can click and move the mouse to explore the layout.
