John Doehring - President

Greetings from the President

Hello, and welcome to the Northeastern Region of the NMRA. We are a group of more than 1500 scale model railroaders, railroad modelers, and train enthusiasts of all types, interests, scales, and focus. Our region covers New England, much of New York and New Jersey, and eastern Canada. Some of us are model building experts, and some are scenic artists, but we also include historians, prototype rivet counters, scale operators, electronics wizards, technology gurus, creative magicians, and on and on. All of us are model railroaders - folks crazy about trains (and often with big dreams, limited resources, and too much else to do in life). Ours is a rich, dynamic, and ‘big tent’ hobby.

NMRA members usually affiliate with a local division near where they live, participating in local meetings, clinics, train shows, and operating sessions. There are opportunities for builder and photo contest entry, and many participate in the NMRA’s Achievement Program (the pathway to Master Model Railroader). The Northeastern Region offers specific member benefits as well – including our quarterly news magazine, The Coupler, and an annual offsite model railroading convention co-hosted with one of our fourteen local divisions.

Learn more here, and check out too the national NMRA site at www.nmra.org to discover the wide variety of benefits for members (and if you’re not a member, please consider joining today). Then, find a local division (division website links and contacts are listed on this site) to visit in person. And of course, please reach out for one of us here in the NER – we’re here to help, and we’d love to talk with you more about trains, model railroading, and the NMRA tribe.

Most of us join the NMRA to advance our own journey as scale model railroaders – to learn more about what to do and how to do it, and to connect with experts that can help us achieve our goals. In the NMRA you’ll find these people, and the skills and experience you’re looking for, but you’ll likely also find many new friends – great people who will improve not only you’re model railroading, but who will also enrich your life.

Join us, come share your story, and let’s have a little fun – with trains!

High green!
